Knowing Yourself

“The better you know yourself, the better your relationship with the rest of the world.”

Values, Likes, and Dislikes

Considering your social supports and how you may increase those supports throughout your life is an important part of knowing yourself and understanding your needs on a deeper level.

This session begins by exploring values and helps you understand your own likes and dislikes. This will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the way you experience the world and how you may be able to use additional social supports.

What Do You Like?

Have you ever stopped to think about what you like?

It seems like a simple question, but it may not be something you actually spend a lot of time thinking about.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in what you are doing and forget to sit down and sort through how you feel about things.

When you can identify areas where you feel comfortable and things that you like, and dislike, you can potentially identify areas where you can use social supports.

Setting Yourself Up for Success

Identifying your likes and dislikes helps you better understand who you are, and how you would like to be in the community. Understanding your personal preferences helps you set yourself up for success and allows you to have more positive experiences.

Making use of your social supports may help you be more successful in addressing your dislikes and making a plan of action.

Social Support Goal Check-in

  • At the end of each session from here on out, we will share our social support goals and how they are going
  • This will allow us to practice listening to others and providing peer support when it’s asked for
  • While other peers share their social support goal, try listening to learn
  • If you have an idea about what might help with a barrier they are experiencing, ask your peer if they would like an idea or if they only want us to hear about their experiences
